Michael Nathan Hux is a vocalist with a passion for singing Christian/Gospel music. Michael was born in what is now the Selma Regional Medical Center on April 18, 1984 to Clete and Karen Hux. As a preacher's son, Michael was constantly exposed to music in churches where his father was pastor. When Michael and his family moved to Birmingham in 1990, they joined Briarwood Presbyterian Church, which would become very influential in his development as a vocalist...although it was almost by accident.

Michael sang in choirs from age 6 onward, first in church and then in school, also at Briarwood. Michael had never played a musical instrument, so he chose to stay with choir as an outlet for music. He sang with the school choirs through his junior high years.

Michael had not really considered being a part of choir before beginning high school , but his mother convinced him to sing with Briarwood church's Chapel Choir, specific to high school aged kids. What drew him in were the summer tours to places like Chicago and New York City, but after experiencing singing engagements in nursing/retirement homes on these tours, his focus changed entirely from pleasure-seeking to mercy-ministering.

Through his high school years and time singing with the Chapel Choir, Michael experimented with vibrato in his voice, usually in the middle of singing in a group where no one could hear him. His curiosity finally got the best of him at the choir's annual retreat to Camp Lee in Anniston, Alabama to kick the year off. Karaoke Night was a mainstay of the trip, and he had taken the stage before, usually to sing silly songs with groups of his friends. After the choir's ensemble director sang an incredible version of Frank Sinatra's  'New York, New York", one of his friends declined to take the stage to sing R. Kelly's 'I Believe I Can Fly" out of fear of embarrassment. Michael chose to sing it anyway...

By the end of his karaoke performance, his fellow choir members had forgotten about what they were doing and were giving him a standing ovation. The choir pianist commented on how she had no idea that he had such a great solo voice. His response was "Thanks...I didn't either!" And such was the accident of Michael discovering his own voice.

After the secret was out, he continued to sing with that choir, as well as in musical dramas and with the high school choir. He also received a Superior rating in his only competition near the end of his senior year.

Michael attended college at the University of Alabama where a high school friend and fellow Chapel Choir member brought him to audition for the University Chorus. As a person who had sung a Baritone voice part to that point, he was very surprised when the director accepted him and placed him as a Tenor 1! Michael sang with the University Chorus throughout his college career, in group numbers and in solos.

Michael also had two musical experiences on the opposite end of the spectrum. When a friend of his asked him to sing in an '80's metal band named "Way Cool Jr" after Michael volunteered to sing during a practice session. Although the band was short-lived, the experience caused Michael appreciation for music of that era to grow. Michael also tried out for American Idol in Birmingham and in Memphis, TN, barely missing the cut to perform in front of the judges. While not a successful venture, Michael learned important points about performance persona and stage presence.

Michael is currently working on his debut album "Unwavering", with the majority of the music centering on maintaining the Christian faith during times of oppression and persecution. Michael sang with Briarwood Presbyterian Church's Praise Team and also led a 9-member ensemble named "Glad-Tidings", which sang acapella numbers performed by the progressive Christian music group, "Glad". He also performed along side multi-Grammy and multi-Dove award-winning vocalist Larnelle Harris in Bob Farrell & Greg Nelson's "Saviour: A Modern Oratorio" as one of the lead tenors alongside Mr. Harris. He recently sang background vocals for Kristin Chenoweth at the Alys Stephens Center's VIVA Health Starlight Gala 2016. He now sings with Oak Mountain Presbyterian's Church's Adult Choir and with the church's Praise & Worship Team.

Michael graduated from Briarwood Christian School in 2003 and received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alabama in December of 2008. In may of 2013, he obtained his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His current "day job" is at ATI Nursing Education as a Partner Support Specialist working with undergraduate nursing schools in Alabama and Tennessee. Michael currently resides in Sterrett, Alabama and is married to Stacy Renee Hux, originally from Baltimore, Maryland. Their family is completed by the family dogs, brothers Titan and Sonny and their sister Lady. Michael enjoys hunting, fishing, Alabama football and aviation.
